Do A Little Dance!

. . . Make A Little Love

On Thursday I had the honor and privilege to join a group led by our Mayor, Robert Reichert, for a trip to Atlanta's High Museum.

The two exhibits that we were there to see: "Road to Freedom: Photographs of the Civil Rights Movement, 1956–1968" and "After 1968: Contemporary Artists and the Civil Rights Legacy" moved me in a way that I find difficult to describe.

The hollow I saw in the eyes of the parents of Denise McNair, Cynthia Wesley, Carole Robertson and Addie Mae Collins - 4 little girls whose lives were taken when the 16th Street Baptist Church was bombed. A photograph of the drivers seat of Viola Liuzzo's car, stained with her blood . . . and I could still see her shoes - lying in the floorboard. These images, all of the images, made me acutely conscious of how far hatred can go . . . how toxic it can become.

Hatred. It starts as a whisper, spread among "friends" until it becomes acceptable to humiliate an "outsider" in the open, over a beer, as if it were a comedy routine. And before you know it - it's okay to diminish your own neighbors, at the nicest restaurant in town, at the top of your lungs.
The Toast, this week, goes to those who find even the whispers to be unacceptable, far from okay, and undeserving of tolerance . . . The Champagne Toast, goes to Mr. & Mrs. John Matthew Fennell!

Bebe Sanders was married to Matthew Fennell at Christ Church on Saturday at six thirty . . . and there was LOVE!!!

I cannot name two people for you, who are more lovely, more welcoming, more kind, more considerate and more caring . . . than Bebe and Matthew. If it seems that I am exaggerating - I promise you that I'm not. And their wedding was no exception.

On that note - a Toast to Sanders Calloway Hatcher (Cal), the precocious ring bearer who was cute enough to gobble up like Wedding Cake.

The reception was held at the ethereally candle lit Blacksmith Shop, catered by Natalia's and attended by an intimate group of friends and family. The night was as beautiful as the couple that it honored!

As superstition would have it (or so says Kathryn Strickland) you should sleep with a piece of wedding cake under your pillow and you will dream about your own wedding. As luck would have it . . . one of the bartenders set aside a bottle of the "good wine" especially for me. So I slept soundly enough to have nary a recollection of such a dream.

But I do have a dream, and it's very simple. My dream is for love to grow stronger than hate, each and every day, by leaps and bounds.

Somethin' "O" & Somethin' New

. . . An Appetite For Something New

Last Tuesday I met my oldest friends at Macon’s newest restaurant, The Stack. Milly (Sanders), Elizabeth (Culp), Leigh (Loyd) and Sweet (Dupuy) shared fries, homemade chips and the delightful company of two of my favorite petite belles Lillie Sweet (Strickland) and Florence (Dupuy). I was so excited that the next generation of YaYa’s could join us! Lillie Sweet is quite the conversationalist and baby Florence was so sweet . . . sitting in my lap like a little doll and coo-ing at me until I was completely under the spell of that sweet baby smell.

The Stack is, for sure, one of my new faves. The menu features a build-your-own burger assortment of meats (and a little something for the veggie lovers as well), cheeses, toppings, breads and condiments that gives a girl all the options that her heart can possibly desire. I had a turkey burger on an English muffin with garden, pepperjack cheese, black bean salsa, pepperocini peppers and ranch dressing. It was complete perfection and I will definitely be back. I’ve already promised to meet Cason (Wilkin) there . . . it’s just the spot for her to appease any particular craving she might be having that day. (SO excited for her!!!)

The very next day, my Daddy took me to another new spot - Sticky Fingers. My grilled chicken breast and veggies hit the spot and the spicy barbeque sauce that I chose was definitely up to my discriminating standards. Our father/daughter dish n dash was delish. And I now know that my Blues Name is Sticky Bones Davis . . . coming to a Juke Joint near you with the soulful sounds of Big Killer Brown. Get your fingers sticky, lick that spicy sauce right off of them, and find out what the lights will spell out when it’s your turn to take the stage.

I spent the latter part of the week enjoying the company of friends and family. My grandmother, Honey, invited me over to the Allison Park Greasy Spoon for Salmon from Hoyts. Mmm – Mmm! And I headed over to the Hellis Patio bar for cocktails and catchin’ up on Saturday.

The cherry on my Sunday was put there by Mark Brooker and the Soul Proprietors. Josh Rogers has done it again! The second, monthly Second Sunday was quite a hit. I rode with Shugar and Miss J (Jessica Walden) over to Leah's (Yetter) precious downtown Magnolia Street bachelorette pad where we made sure that the champagne and the orange juice were not mutually exclusive. Perhaps the only shadow cast over the whole day was created by the battle of the brellas. That’s right, leave it to David (Higdon) to get parasol envy and break out the big guns.

The sun set on a most delicious week as Miss J, Leah, Georgeanna (Walden), Stephanie (Shadden) and I enjoyed gourmet-secret-recipe strawberry daiquiris on Shugar’s deck. And a new one began as the sun rose on Vista Circle and I hit the pavement to sweat the toxins out with Kim (Sandefur).

Every Little Bit Makes A Difference

. . . Just A Little Bit

I read something this week that made my heart flutter. It said:

Enjoy the little things.
For one day you may look back and realize they were
the big things.

This past weekend, and the days that led up to it, can best be described the very same way - a million little things that, in hindsight, are (in every single way) deliciously Big. My Some Kind of Wonderful life is absolutely pinch-able! I'll give you the highlights . . . a Toast to the little things.

Leah Yetter’s "LITTLE" photography exhibit at Macon Arts garnered the most impressive attendance I have yet to see at an opening reception. She was the Belle of First Friday, it was huge success (to say the very least) and we are all so proud of her.

An ITTY BITTY walk down First (next door in fact) to Ginger Michelle's sidewalk sale and I had a big brown bag full of bargain - a coral dress whose straps tie in a darling bow that sits right on my collarbone.

A TEENSY bit later, I headed down to Tic Toc where Jessica (Walden), Leah and crew were waiting for me with a great big surprise - a real live Sugar Daddy. Sugar Daddy treated us to drinks, dinner and dancing. He even ordered for us. And I never thought I was the kind of girl who would want a man to order for her. Turns out . . . I-yam! Thanks, Sugar Daddy.

On Saturday, Allyson (Moody) and I took a SHORT trip up the road to Atlanta for a very large time in Virginia Highlands. We had brunch at Murphy’s and I ordered the Chilaquiles. They were excellent and I sipped a Virgin Mary that rivals any of the saucier versions I’ve had elsewhere. But the Must-Not-Miss at this joint can be found in the bread basket. That’s right . . . I had a muffin and a biscuit, that we didn’t get to, wrapped up to go. Ain’t no shame in my game. Not where bread is concerned, at least.

Brunch leftovers also included a WEE bit of time for shopping before we got back on the road. Dabberdoo and Dakota J’s were big on style and I got to ask “how much is that doggy in the window” at Half-Moon Outfitters. Across the street we found a doormat that gave us cause for a “paws” and a chuckle as well. The Ice-ing on our Saturday . . . a couple of gelatos (I recommend the Wild Cherry) from Paolo’s and one very flirtatious Valet. Oh do go on!

By Sunday evening I was having a TINY taste of something that I've been hearing a whole lot about - the Bang Bang Shrimp at Bonefish. They were just that - Bangin! and I reccomend that you wash them down with a Patron margarita . . . or three.

So there you have it. A little here and a little there and, before you know it, you've been spoiled slap rotten and fancy yourself an actual princess.

Josh, one of the boys at my office, walked by me the other day and said "watcha grinnin' like at for? Ya look like a possum - eatin' persimmons." Just a small piece of advice from me to you . . .
Enjoy Every Little Bit!
