The past week was graced with too many lovely moments to count!
Lauren Summers (Hodgens) invited me to an art show that was truly special. I am so inspired by my talented friend, whose work can also be seen in Macon at the new Ortho Georgia Surgery Center and Mercer University’s Student Center. Paintings for sale are located at Cesare Mammarella’s Dolce Vita, Restaurant and Bar, and Jack-n-Coat, Men’s Couture Clothing Store on Cherry Street. And her work was among pieces from so many talented artists at the show that I photographed my favorites - so be sure to take a peek at the album.
Then, Doctor Turvy took me on an intoxicating adventure . . . which I am not yet at liberty to discuss. But I can tell you that we: agree that Anthony Bourdain’s “home base” is a slice of French heaven, learned how to make strawberry pearls, and decided that my ashes should be scattered on the third floor of a certain bookstore. I promise to divulge the full story when the timing is appropriate and assure you that it’s worth the wait.
And after all of that, I helped the Rotary Cooks celebrate Dr. Eddie Hudspeth’s “29th” birthday out at Walnut Creek. When it comes to hospitality . . . The Stewarts have cultivated a standard by which all others should be measured. It was a gorgeous evening.
Which brings us to THE Toast, this week . . . a Toast to Leadership, a Toast to Stewardship, a TOAST to Friendship. It’s a Toast to two men who inspire me to devote my heart and soul to each of these pursuits.

"One man can't change everything but one man can change something"

Charles H. Jones was a man who knew how to make something happen. R. Kirby Godsey was his dear friend. And the words above were spoken in one of the most touching and inspiring eulogies that I have ever had the honor of experiencing. I was humbled by Charlie’s accomplishments. I was encouraged by his tenacity.
“Don’t let the worst thing you do be the last thing you do”

That one gave me goose bumps. What would the world be like if we all looked at setbacks and wrong turns as a reason to do something better? How much time has been wasted thinking that it’s “the end of the world” when the truth is that every mistake brings us that much closer to getting it right? Neither of these men has ever been known for wasting time.
"Talent without passionate pursuit leaves us
with intelligence that doesn't get anything done"

As the bagpipes played, I read the notes that I had scribbled. And later on at the “Celebration of Life,” they were still with me. Haunting me. Challenging me.
So I raised my glass of Champagne and said a grateful (silent) Toast. To R. Kirby Godsey, to Charles H. Jones. To two friends and all the "somethings" they changed together!
