Doin' the Charleston!

a
My office has become delightfully mobile lately. So I took a little cruise on over to Charleston to see my Mother, Sister, Niece and Nephew. Mother has two new chickens, Wallis and Edward, a Light Sussex breeding pair. One of the oldest breeds still in existence, they’re just gorgeous and incredibly romantic . . . each refusing to leave the other’s side. These two will never have to answer the question “a bird can love a fish but where will they live” because they’ve got a swanky new Omlet Eglu. Nope, I was the one doin’ the fish lurvin’!

My new friend Mike at Charleston Angler got us set up to hook some Redfish in the Wando and boil some crabs in Mom’s big silver pot. And my new friend Ben brought the Surf Fishin’ “A Game” . . . HE had me at “heirloom rod.” And, in fact, I cannot say enough about the entire staff at Charleston Angler. A great big Toast to my new fishing buddies! But pulling crab traps out of the river wasn’t the only time I got wet this week. I felt the cool splish-splash of the black water tidal creeks on a sea kayaking excursion and got four feet close to a Gator that gave me goose bumps. If that’s not just about as close to Adveture-ess Heaven as I’ve ever been then I don’t know what.

We also got pretty close to Foodie Heaven as well. When we weren’t washing down fresh crabmeat with Muscadine Wine, we were licking our fingers at Sesame, Seel’s on Sullivan’s (the Trash Plate is a must), and Jack’s Cosmic Dogs (don’t skip the blue cheese slaw OR the sweet potato mustard). A Toast of the “pink stuff” to all three.

By Wednesday I was home just in time for Amy’s (Hellis) birthday party. Her Mother, Maureen, outdid herself! And I was just so honored to be on a guest list that included such wonderful women. Tink, tink, tink . . . It was a really special evening and Amy has never looked younger.

I don’t know how young I look but I’m still getting hit on by teenagers and carded so I can’t complain. On Friday night my neighbor, Mallory, picked me up in her Delorean and we went right on back to my twenties. At the Shamrock I ran into one of my oldest and dearest friends & was reminded how much (in the aforementioned twenties) I used to enjoy being flung across the dance floor with such enthusiasm that we were known for “taking out” several of our friends with a single twirl. Ummm . . . we’ve still got it!

The Delorean’s still got it too. I’m having the oil changed so that we (Mallory & the twenty-something me) can take her to Oktoberfest this weekend.
