Sunset to Sunrise

. . . I Don't Do Early Mornings

But maybe that's because I got my hands on a little POT this week as well. I joined fellow Macon Arts Board members to set-up the Round Building for Fired Works. It went just as you might imagine. Some of us were too high (on ladders hanging banners), some of us were just being silly (and got simple jobs like moving boxes) and some of us were up to our eyeballs in the POT (setting up the displays.) But one thing is for sure - at one point or another, we were all standing around and scarfing down pizza to appease those pesky munchies. I almost made myself sick!

Then came the weekend. Oh goodness.

I truly couldn't have scripted a more perfect Friday. I started the day with Lee. Lee works at the little gas station across from the Tubman. He, proving that chivalry is not dead, pumps my gas for me and professes that "the sun always comes out from behind the clouds" when I drive up. What can I say - I'm a lucky girl.

After that, I took the sunshine with me out to Walnut Creek to meet up with the Rotary Cooking Committee for a little fun in the kitchen. We made sausage & cheese apps, Walnut Creek Salad, Sea Island Cornbread, and a low country boil that would have made your toes curl. I mean - we could have played a game of softball with the crab legs.

Later on I was invited to join the cast of The Full Monty for a soiree at Chris Abbott's new house. The Shirley Hills cottage is JUST DARLING and Chris is certainly Macon's hottest new hostess with the most-ess. He even saw to it that I enjoyed a late night serenade . . . Baxter James (on guitar) & Trevor Chatfield (on violin.) My coach turned into a pumpkin long before the fun was over.

After sleeping well into Saturday, I awoke to the age-old dilemma . . . what ever was I going to wear to the ball? If you would be shocked to hear that I wore only a silk trench coat, then you'll just have to join the "well I never" crowd. O.k. - so a Vera Wang slip peeked out from underneath, making me a tad more Maggie the Cat than Sue Ellen Ewing. Nevertheless - from Idle Hour, to Party of the Year, to Natalia's and even on to After-Party of the Year . . . the end result was the same and I felt oh so scandalously delicious in my daring & experimental couture.

Sunday proved to be the perfect end to a pretty darn wonderful week when I joined Amy (Hellis) for a beautiful hike. The canopy of trees, the frilly little ferns . . . the gorgeous green splendor of it all made my heart swell. The air was clean and fresh and, for a moment, I thought that I could imagine what it must feel like to take your very first breath.

In honor of Earth Day, it was so great to remember what it's like to feel the climb burn in my thighs, to feel the dirt run through my fingers, to relish the taste of plain old fashioned cold water - and, especially, even to stand still and just . . . breathe.
